Jindal on Gustav (What a difference!)

Just watched Bobby’s presser on Fox. What a guy! In control…responsible…a hands-on leader!

Here’s Nagin’s latest…even Ray seems no longer “stuck on stupid” (here’s the link–read the rest)…

“I don’t think I can do another Katrina, but I can definitely do what we’re doing today because it’s smooth, it’s effective, and it’s getting the job done,” Nagin said Sunday from the train station where residents were boarding evacuation buses in a scene that was far less chaotic than during Katrina. “And we’ll be able to get our people back with little hassle.”

As Gustav gained strength from warm Gulf of Mexico waters and headed toward the Louisiana coast, Nagin’s tone wasn’t the only thing different from three years ago.

The White House is “showering us with resources,” Nagin told a local TV station, and President Bush called him Sunday “to check in.”

Sarah Palin: Conservative’s dream girl! (Times UK)

This is a great article on Sarah and how she fits the bill for conservatives. Also, read the comments…there are several from Alaskans and at least one from a resident of Wasilla.

Here’s an excerpt and link to The Times UK

“We may be seeing the first woman president. As a Democrat, I am reeling,” said Camille Paglia, the cultural critic. “That was the best political speech I have ever seen delivered by an American woman politician. Palin is as tough as nails.”

And by the way, did I mention she’s from…

Palin! What she adds! (Weekly Standard)

What Palin Does by Noemie Emery…

1. Steps on the story of Obama’s speech (and convention), and possibly the bounce coming from them, and wipes them off the news cycle. The Sunday news shows will be all-Palin, all of the time.

2. Sends Republicans into their convention on a huge head of steam.

3. Wipes out the image of McCain as the crotchety elder and brings back that of the fly-boy and gambler, which is much more appealing, and the genuine person.

4. Revs up the base AND excites independents, which no one else in the party, or perhaps in the world, could have accomplished.

Mark Steyn on Sarah Palin

No issue as potent as the Sarah Palin nod can be put to bed until Mark Steyn gives us his take (does this tiny article signal the end to his summer hiatus?).

Here’s excerpt and link to Steyn in today’s NRO

First, Governor Palin is not merely, as Jay describes her, “all-American”, but hyper-American. What other country in the developed world produces beauty queens who hunt caribou and serve up a terrific moose stew? As an immigrant, I’m not saying I came to the United States purely to meet chicks like that, but it was certainly high on my list of priorities. And for the gun-totin’ Miss Wasilla then to go on to become Governor while having five kids makes it an even more uniquely American story. Next to her resume, a guy who’s done nothing but serve in the phony-baloney job of “community organizer” and write multiple autobiographies looks like just another creepily self-absorbed lifelong member of the full-time political class that infests every advanced democracy

Obama: “The Perfect Stranger”–It’s still all about the “O” (Krauthammer)

Obama is a strange one…and his campaign is all about him.

He has no record to speak of. No paper trail. No witnesses (except for those now, as Charles points out, resting uncomfortably under the bus).

As it was in the beginning, it still is now. It’s all about Obama yet we don’t know who he is.

Here’s Krauthammer’s opening volley in Real Clear Politics today…

Barack Obama is an immensely talented man whose talents have been largely devoted to crafting, and chronicling, his own life. Not things. Not ideas. Not institutions. But himself.

Nothing wrong or even terribly odd about that, except that he is laying claim to the job of crafting the coming history of the United States. A leap of such audacity is odd. The air of unease at the Democratic convention this week was not just a result of the Clinton psychodrama. The deeper anxiety was that the party was nominating a man of many gifts but precious few accomplishments — bearing even fewer witnesses.
