The Upside of the Press Hatred of Sarah Palin

The press did Sarah Palin and the GOP a huge favor!

By their relentless campaign of personal destruction, they caused a powerful backlash among voters in favor of Sarah. Furthermore, their attempts to paint Sarah as completely out of her league had the effect of significantly reducing expectations for her performance Wednesday night..and, in doing so, unwittingly created a vacuum into which she stepped with grace and aplomb. The Media vs Sarah Palin

Can you hear them? Those deafening screams coming from the media and political operatives.

“Get me the file on that Palin woman!”

“No file???”

“What do you mean there’s no file…she’s the Governor of Moosejaw or something.”

Clearly, the selection of Sarah Palin has blind-sided both the Democrats and the MSM. If the old adage is true–that “if you’re catching flak, you must be over the target”–the media must expect Palin and McCain to parachute into the White House at any moment.

She is an extremely attractive candidate (more so than their hand-picked messiah) and can lead those like her–red-blooded Americans–in a frontal assault against the left wing coup-d’etat supported by the media, academia, and other assorted arugula-chomping, latte-sipping liberals.

The lefties are howling because they suspect they have been thwarted. And I think they are correct.

Listen to what Thomas Lifson has to say about Sarah in today’s American Thinker and Real Clear Politics (read the whole story at link)…

Sarah Palin is the ultimate All-American Girl, beautiful but not glamorous, powerful but unpretentious, high-powered but down-to-earth, a reformer who speaks up while others cower in fear of rocking the boat. Like Ronald Reagan, she can reach right through the television camera into people’s minds and hearts. We recognize one of us.

The left, so wrapped in artifice and fakery, are driven crazy by this. Her behavior appears bizarre, inexplicable. In their minds, she is a disaster and they pretend to be gleeful, asking when McCain will dump her. All while panicking, because they can see the energized GOP base and the failure of Barack Obama to garner the ten-to-fifteen point post-convention bounce to be expected after his speech before the multimillion-dollar Greek temple set and fireworks at Invesco Field only 5 days ago. Those who planned the classical Greek theatrical stage never for second contemplated the possibility of a deus ex machina named Sarah.

And this from the Wall Street Journal

What’s really going on here is that the Beltway class can see how popular the Palin pick is with Republicans outside Washington, and especially with middle-class conservatives. As Richard Land, a leader with the Southern Baptist Convention, said Monday, John McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin closed the “enthusiasm gap” between the two parties.

There is nothing more dangerous to entrenched Washington power than a populist conservative who looks unlikely to buy into Washington’s creature comforts. Take a close look at Governor Palin’s record on ethics and energy in Alaska, and it becomes clear what this Beltway outburst is actually about. The irony is that while Senator Obama is running on change, his acceptance speech made explicit that he’s promising only more power and money for Washington. Sarah Palin’s history of taking on the career politicians of a corrupt Alaskan GOP machine — her own party — shows that she’s the more authentic change agent.

Biden says Israel must accept nuclear Iran!

Biden has historically been a strong ally of Israel, so this comment may turn out to be apocryphal. If, however, it turns out to be true, there will be some slippage of support among voters who count themselves strong supporters of Israel.

Here’s an excerpt (read it all at Haaretz)…

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden was quoted Monday as telling senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran.

In the unsourced report, Army Radio also quoted Biden as saying that he opposed “opening a additional military and diplomatic front.”

Gerard Baker provides a side-by-side comparison of Obama’s and Palin’s experience

We can always count on Gerard Baker (U.S. Editor of the Times UK) to bring some clarity (and humor) to the muddle of American Politics and he does so today in his article in Real Clear Politics. Here’s an excerpt–read it all at RCP

Appeal

Obama: A very attractive speaker whose celebrity has been compared to that of Britney Spears and who sends thrills up Chris Matthews’ leg

Palin: A very attractive woman, much better-looking than Britney Spears who speaks rather well too. She sends thrills up the leg of Rush Limbaugh (and me).

Executive experience

Obama: Makes executive decisions every day that affect the lives of his campaign staff and a vast crowd of traveling journalists

Palin: Makes executive decisions every day that affect the lives of 500,000 people in her state, and that impact crucial issues of national economic interest such as the supply and cost of energy to the United States.

Palin’s 17 year old daughter Bristol is pregnant!

McCain knew this before his decision to select Palin. And even James Dobson approves…well, at least of the way the family is handling the matter.

On the other hand, Obama must think the Palins are awful parents–punishing their daughter with a baby.

From our point of view, this is another “non-event” in this campaign…unless one is a hardcore liberal, that is.

Here’s an excerpt from FoxNews.com (read the rest at link)…

McCain’s campaign told FOX News that the presumptive Republican presidential candidate knew about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy before he chose Palin as his running mate last Friday, and that Bristol is planning to marry the father of her child. The baby is due in late December.

“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,” the Palins said in the statement. “Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.”

Bobby Jindal’s phenomenal 6-month record of achievement (Newt Gingrich)

Newt does it again with his effusive (but well deserved IMO) praise for Bobby Jindal in his article in Human Events entitled “Bobby Jindal, America’s Most Transformational Governor”.

Here, according to Newt, is a partial list a Bobby’s achievements in only six months…

(…)

* Six Major Tax Cuts worth more than $500 million, including eliminating taxes on business and capital investment and the largest personal tax cut in the history of the state - a $300 million reduction in personal income taxes, worth up to $500 for an individual and $1,000 for a family.

* Governor Jindal brought about a Transformation of Job Creation and Retraining. He completely eliminated the Department of Labor and passed a guarantee for employers that Louisiana educational institutions will train its workforce to meet their needs, and if they fail, they will retrain workers for free.

* He created $10 million in Opportunity Scholarships so 1,500 poor children in New Orleans can escape failing public schools.

* Jindal led the passage of The Health Care Consumers Right to Know Act, creating transparency of cost and quality for the first time in Louisiana’s health care system.

* Bobby Jindal expanded the number of charter schools in Louisiana from 42 to 100.

* He passed legislation cracking down on child molesters and also passed a resolution calling for the creation of involuntary civil commitment of sexually violent predators to keep them confined for treatment after they complete their prison terms.

And here’s a seventh achievement…

Louisiana’s Third Bond Rating Boost in a Week

All this, and Governor Bobby Jindal is just getting started. Just last week he vetoed $9 million dollars in pet projects and pork barrel spending in the legislature’s budget - another area in which this 37-year-old governor is showing the way to Washington.

Not coincidentally, Jindal also announced that for the third time last week, Louisiana’s bond rating had been raised by a major credit rating agency.
